I always see it as James Mason's heartbreakingly best work, a performance every actor should study and learn from. The scene where he overhears his wife talking about him is unforgettable, one of the most powerful ever filmed, and he says nothing. It's the moment he decides to kill himself. Off in the ocean he goes.
