Lazarus is not only alive, but he's playing first violin at the Hollywood Bowl.
Back from the dead, the last two summer evenings for me at the Bowl have washed out the nasty aftertaste I got from the crap we saw in July.
Harry Connick Jr. was top notch. He gave the crowd exactly what they were expecting. And, last weekend, John Williams made his annual appearance. Usually, the bearded maestro can be a little erratic. Last year, he played so much Harry Potter music that I wanted to vomit into the closest wizard's hat.
But, in 2010, Williams used the big movie screen to play along with some wonderful clips. A sequence from Jaws. A tribute to Audrey Hepburn. Excerpts from "Sunset Boulevard" and the Indiana Jones series.
And then the usual showstopper. Up come the first strains of "Star Wars." Out come all the lunatics with their light sabers. This year's light show in the audience was bigger than ever.
I actually might have to invest in one next year.
Enjoy! And let the force be with you!
Dinner last night: Chicken teriyaki at BJ's.

You capture a fun moment when a forest of light sabers held aloft by serious Star Wars nerds makes its annual appearance. We're all crazy about movies.
