Here's Another Non-Movie Review

Well, when you can't review movies during a pandemic, you take a stab at mini-series.   Or anything for that matter.

Truth be told, "The Morning Show" is now destined to be something more than one season.  Oddly enough, it was supposed to start production on its second season two weeks ago.   Um, yeah.   My guess is we won't be seeing it till sometime in 2021.

That's a pity since I thought "The Morning Show" was terrific.   I was drawn to it because it earned Jennifer Aniston a SAG award two months ago.  Since I always liked her on "Friends," I was curious to see how she holds up dramatically.   Quite well, I will say.

Now I have to tell you that "The Morning Show" is not easily accessible as it can be found on Apple TV Plus, which I believe has six subscribers.  But here's the thing.   You can sign up for a one week free trial.   The ten episodes of Season One are up and loaded.   That's a tall order to binge over seven days.   But during a pandemic?   Easy peasy.

"The Morning Show" is so incredibly compelling with or without Ms. Aniston's bravura performance.   It is, as the newspaper ads used to say, ripped right out of today's headlines.   You see, it's all loosely based on Matt Lauer's shenanigans at "The Today Show."   As Episode One opens, host Mitch Kessler (played with uber-sleaze by Steve Carell and it's the first time I've actually liked his work) has been fired for being sexually inappropriate with a bunch of staffers.  This leaves his longtime co-host and resident bitch Alex Levy (Aniston) up a TV antenna without a console and it's a problem for the network because they've been looking to get rid of Alex.

Enter local reporter Bradley Jackson and it's yet another TV mini-series role for Reese Witherspoon who must be looking to see some record with Guinness.  Bradley winds up as the new co-host and she begins to smell a rat around the network.  After all, Mitch's antics must have been known by the top brass, right?  Add in the fact that Bradley and Alex don't necessarily get along and you get the kind of friction that usually shows up only on TMZ.

There are amazing twists and turns with this saga and the accolades to Jennifer are justified.   And Ms. Witherspoon ain't no slouch either.  It all culminates in a Episode 10 season finale that is amazing television.  Don't miss it.   And I already told you the free trial secret.  Trust me.  Once you start watching "The Morning Show," you can sail through the whole season in a couple of days and then simply disconnect.

But, wait.   I see Apple TV Plus has a mini-series coming up with my favorite "Downton Abbey" actress Michelle Dockery.

Shit.   What did I do with that sign-on info??

Dinner last night:  Grilled bratwurst and salad.
