Your Weekend Movie Guide for August 2018

You know, even rotten movies are okay if you need air conditioning.  I mean, that's what theaters really pushed back in the day when homes weren't and movie palaces were.   You could lose yourself with chilly bliss, even if the double feature was dreadful.

So, if it's as hot by you as it is by me, go see something truly crappy and maybe even take a nap.  Given this month's attractions, dozing in cool comfort just might be the better avenue.  You know the drill, folks.  I'll meander through the movie pages of the LA Times and give you my knee jerk reaction to what's out there and in there.

And, just remember as your mind goes numb...at least, it's air conditioned.

Mission Impossible - Fallout:  Reviewed here recently.  Lots and lots and lots of fun.  Finally a movie franchise that we can enjoy.

The Darkest Minds:  Teens in detainment camps.  Oh, a comedy.

Christopher Robin:   Spotlighting on the other guy since Winnie the Pooh apparently got into a salary dispute with Disney.

Never Goin' Back:   If you're referring to my home town of Mount Vernon, New York, that would be correct.

The Spy Who Dumped Me:  Reviewed here the other day.  Is it me or does every role Kate McKinnon play come out sounding like Hillary Clinton?

Puzzle:   Two people at a jigsaw puzzle tournament.   Hope it explains that one piece that always goes missing.

Teen Titans GO! To the Movies:  I have no idea what this is.

Dog Days:   Blog review coming.  Gee, how clever that this has an August release date.

A Prayer Before Dawn: An English boxer in a Thailand prison.  Midnight Express now boarding.

Church and State:   The Gays vs. the Mormons.  Take the Gays with the points.

Fox Trap:  A masked maniac and a disabled girl.   Charming.

Black K Klansman:   Now Denzel's son John David is getting movie roles.   I wonder if he also has an affair on every movie set just like dirtbag Dad.

Benched:   A coach and his Little League team.   Paging Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal.

The Wife:   Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce as a sparring married couple.  Is there any other kind?

Down a Dark Hall:  Teenage girls in peril.   Oh, that's new.

Slender Man:  A skinny guy taunts teenage girls who are also now in peril.

The Meg:   A prehistoric shark.   When Spielberg Worlds Collide.

Crazy Rich Asians:  Who still can't drive.

Alpha:  A young man raised by wolves.  Some may think this is a documentary about Paul Ryan.

Mile 22:  Mark Wahlberg as a CIA operative in Southeast Asia.   Well, for once, it's not Russia.

Blindspotting:   That's an oxymoron.

Three Identical Strangers:   I have heard good things about this documentary featuring triplets separated at birth.

Mamma Mia!  Here We Go Again:  Flush twice please.

Eighth Grade:  Blog review coming.  PS, this will take you back to your school days...for those of you who want to go.

Dinner last night:  Salad bar.
