Morons of the Month - July 2012

The ability to Twitter is a double-edged sword.  For celebrities, it gives them a great way to stay in immediate touch with their fans.  The down side?  Some of the so-called stars have knee-jerk reactions to some current events and make asinine comments that are probably better left to their publicists.

Take, for instance, one of our Morons this month.  Comedian Chris Rock, who I have generally liked.  In fact, his "Good Hair" documentary on Black women's obsession to have straight hair was fabulous and I wrote about it glowingly here.  If he were smart, Chris would spent the rest of his career doing film pieces just like that.

I did just say that, right?  If Chris were smart?

Well, from his tweet last week, apparently not.

Why Chris Rock felt a need to comment on the Independence Day holiday is beyond me.  I certainly didn't wake up on July 4 and wonder immediately what Chris Rock was thinking at that very moment.  But, those of his Twitter followers got treated to the following:

"Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren't free but I'm sure they enjoyed fireworks."

Oh, boy.

Chris, Chris, Chris.   Why, why, why???

Here again, we fall prey to something that happened over 200 years ago.  And was fixed 100 years later.  And solidified 50 years after that.  The talk of slavery just won't go away.  Primarily because nobody lets it.

Okay, I can admit that I don't share the same sensibilities of a Black man.  My ancestors didn't wear chains, but they certainly were probably as poor.  At the same time, this country is a much freer place than it's ever been.  But, folks like Chris Rock are terriers with a bone.  Even though the meat on it was eaten away years ago.

Meanwhile, how about a history lesson, Mr. Rock?  The founding fathers back when didn't ignore slavery.  There was a whole faction who wanted to address it right then and there.  Except they knew it would drag down the whole process of gaining their independence in the face of a war that was just about to start.  They knew that slavery would need to be tackled.   They just couldn't sacrifice the new nation to do it at that very moment.  The old "baby and bath water" scenario.

In reality, for slavery to be finally abolished in the 1860s was a relatively short time historically.  But it was.  And, then, enhanced even further in the 1960s with the Civil Rights Act.

Not enough apparently for Chris Rock, who, by the way, has done quite all right in this country he seems to be a little ashamed of.    And, as for those White people who are more independent than the Black folks?  Well, a lot of us go to see your movies.  Sign you to movie deals?  Tune into your specials on HBO?

Maybe you can put that fact up on Twitter, Chris Rock.

At the same time, not all the Twitter hilarity is confined to Hollywood.  Take a look at this photo and the crocodile tears coming out of one Stephanie Miller, who got to meet President Obama on one of his campaign stops.  She is virtually overcome with emotion as she meets the man who got singlehandedly got her free healthcare.

Well, okay, there is a poignant back story.  It seems that Stephanie's sister died at a very young age from colon cancer.   And, as a result of some bureaucratic red tape, there were problems with health insurance.  I get it.

But, as Miller fawned over the latest Chief-Eexcutive-in-Disgrace, she acted like Obama himself was coughing up the dough for healthcare.

Er, no.

You are.  I am.  A simple fact.  It's not free.  And we are all paying for it.

But, none of that is the reason why Stephanie Miller is a July 2012 Moron.  You see, this walking, talking sob story has never been one to keep her mouth shut in the past.  She is apparently one bad mother fucker.  On her Twitter account.  Where this meek and sedate lady loves to be as vile as she can be when it comes to political views she disagrees with.

For instance...

She once tweeted that Newt Gingrich’s and Rick Santorum’s fathers should have “pulled out” before impregnating their wives.

Charming.

And then Stephanie once tweeted...

"Has the GOP all drank the kool aid??? Too bad it wasn't the Jim Jones special!!!"

Touching.

And how about...

"I'll be like Pres. Obama any day rather than those GOP test tube projects gone wrong they are why ABORTION is legal!!"

Don't you just love the current state of civility in this country?

Yes, this is a free country and you are free to say anything you want.  But, in reality, some pig like Stephanie Miller needs to think twice before she pops on Twitter to push her completely one-side agenda.

Oh, did I just stoop to her level and call Stephanie Miller "a pig?"

Er, yeah.  And it's a free country.  Right?

Dinner last night:  Chicken salad and Waldorf salad.

Good point. Blacks who benefit greatly from America's opportunities--I mean you, Spike, Whoopie, Chris, and FLOTUS--are the loudest, most ungrateful complainers. Bringing up slavery in 2012? Give me a break. Bring it up in 1866 and you'd have my sympathies, not now.

Chris Rock says he was called "nigger" in his otherwise white high school. Scarring, I'm sure. And a long time ago. But that high school was the basis for his sitcom which ran for four years and made him money. It must also be part of his standup which has made him even richer.

I have a friend who was beaten up in high school by black kids. He's the author of this blog. Where's his sitcom?
