RIP COVID

As we wind our way into Independence Day Weekend, are you as mystified as I am?

We are completely back to normal as a nation.  Almost overnight.

In my private world, Dodger Stadium is back to full capacity.

The Stadium Club buffet has reopened and, save for some plexiglass, nothing has changed.   You still pick up the same fork or thongs that the last person handled.

This weekend, I will be heading to a full capacity Hollywood Bowl.   Shoulder-to-shoulder with unmasked faces ooh-ing and aah-ing at the fireworks.

Masks are also no longer required in super markets and restaurants, provided you are fully vaccinated.   Um, have you ever shown your vaccine card to anyone?  Has anybody been asked for one?

One of the jackasses on my Facebook "friends" list publicly thanked Joe Biden for making this all happen.  I wanted to respond by thanking the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, and Gavin Newsom for throwing us under the bus in the first place.  The latter has currently radio ads that talk about how he has California "roaring back" to life.

Oh, please.   While we were all under lock and key, he was sitting twenty to a table at the French Laundry dining on our tax dollars.

Don't get me wrong.  COVID-19 was real.  I know people who it affected.   But, in my heart of hearts, I also know that our national and state leaders didn't miss an opportunity to wield their power and shut us down so they could instigate their own initiatives.  And, hence, we reopened almost as quickly as we shut down.

Hmmmm.

But, one thing that hasn't changed is the number of homeless folks squirming around our big cities.   For them, normal is a far, far cry.  And nobody but nobody has an overnight solution for them.

Dinner last night:  BLT at Dupar's.
