Kicking the Can Down The Road One More Time

And here we go again.

It's been almost 60 years since Marilyn Monroe died.   Or committed suicide.   Or was murdered.   And the fact that I just wrote those words is yet another reason why we have yet another documentary to shed yet another light on what happened back in August, 1962.

Don't get me wrong.   I've always been intrigued at the real story behind this death or suicide or murder.   And, despite re-opened investigations and books and other documentaries, we know nothing more than we did twenty or thirty or sixty years ago.

Now we have this latest "investigation" by Netflix.   It features the work of author Anthony Summers who has made a virtual cottage industry digging into Marilyn's demise.   I'd probably tell him to find a hobby but I think that's what this is.   Oh, he's done yeomen work.   Over 600 tape interviews and he literally kept Memorex in business.  A lot of that source material is featured in this documentary and it certainly is compelling.

Except almost two hours later, we don't know anything we didn't already know twenty or thirty or sixty years ago.

Was she involved with the Kennedy brothers romantically?

What are the disparities in the time line of the night she died?

What about the records of the ambulance company that allegedly transported Marilyn to a Santa Monica hospital that night when she was allegedly found dead in bed?

What about the theory that she got spooked after being tipped off about the forthcoming Cuban missile crisis?

What did Peter Lawford cover up and why?

If you have never heard any of this before, then perhaps "The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe" will be a compelling night of television for you.   But, for folks like moi who have heard it all previously, it will be Yogi Berra's famous "deja vu all over again."

At the end of every day, we will never ever know what happened to Marilyn Monroe.   And don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

LEN'S RATING:  Two stars.

Dinner last night:  Grilled sausage.
