This Date in History - July 19

Happy birthday to Vikki Carr, a woman whose record album was played constantly by my mother.  Just sayin'.

Not sure just how modern Turkey really is.

Is this where we get the Bolognese sauce?

They got her out so fast that I'm wondering if she's related to Trump.

Condo on the beach available.

In some sections of the city, nobody would notice.

It would have been three days but they had to be back home for laundry.

It's good to know that they're willing to fight somebody.

Delayed an hour by signal trouble.

Bicyclists are menaces to society.

One of the biggest losers ever to run for President.

Nazi merit badges.

Her big hit was "It Must Be Him," played over and over and over in my house.

Take that, Benito.

Vikki Carr (Florencia Bisenta de Casillas-Martinez Cardona in El Paso) has had an incredibly long career for someone who hasn't had a top-40 US hit (in English) in the lifetime of most Americans. Most of her work in the past two decades has been aimed at the Latin pop market, but she's been a remarkably durable artists who's also very devoted to charitable work. And "It Must Be Him" is still a terrific song.
